Birthday Books
The idea of Birthday Books is that we, supported by the School’s Library Service, curate a wish list of titles recommended for children to read before they leave primary school. You then purchase one of these books from the dedicated website and give it as a birthday gift. Once the book has been read, and in need of a new home, you can bring it in to the school office where we will give you a lovely, bright slip to complete and stick inside the front cover. The book is then presented back to the child during collective worship at which point they can take it to the library and place it on the shelf. Anyone who then takes the book out to read will know exactly who donated it. This develops a valuable sense of pride and a respect for books that we want for all children.
If you choose to buy one of the books in this way, you further help the school as we get ‘loyalty points’ for future book purchases. This is true for all purchases – not just books for birthdays. The book list we have created includes many new titles from popular authors, and with your support, these will enhance our library shelves and improve the reading diet we can offer our children.
