Our Vision and Aspirations
In their time with us, all of our children will feel loved and cared for as part of a nurturing school community. They will make every minute count and aspire to be the best version of themselves; encouraging the same aspirations in each other.
Children here are trusted to make sensible choices as they develop an understanding of how to find success for themselves, they are spoken to with respect and they are praised for their determination when challenged.
The children are at the heart of all that we do at Otterbourne Church of England Primary School, and we are determined to give them a rich, memorable learning experience that builds their understanding of the world and helps them recognise the importance of our ‘Ten Words’.
The Vision for Otterbourne Church of England Primary School
For the children
Our school vision and aspirations reflect what we believe are essential attributes for today’s children as they face modern challenges and an ever-changing global landscape.
The life-skills and strengths that we instil in our children are developed throughout all aspects of school life, underpinned by a cohesive, sequenced school curriculum. Our three pillars of learning help children to have greater self-awareness and prepare them for a future world that we can’t fully comprehend.
These pillars are built upon the foundations of the school: the core Christian values of Trust, Respect and Determination, and our Christian ethos is firmly embedded within all that we do.
We believe that children need to be educated in different ways, and that they learn through different experiences and learning styles, so our teaching and learning approach, “ALIVE”, ensures that each child is supported individually, so all can succeed.
Trust, Respect and Determination - our core Christian values.
Our values are the foundation for all that we do at Otterbourne Church of England Primary School. They are part of the language of school and our entire school curriculum is built upon them. Our values are taught through an understanding of The Bible, using references which include:
David and Goliath - "Whoever listens to what is taught will succeed, and whoever trusts The Lord will be happy" (Proverbs 16:20)
The Good Samaritan - "Don't be jealous or proud but be humble and consider others more important than yourselves" (Philippians 2:3)
The Good Shepherd - "I can do all things through him who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13)

Ten words of understanding for the world they step into.
Our ‘ten words’ are what we hold to be essential if we are to help our children to become confident citizens, with the skills and understanding needed to navigate the world, whatever it looks like to them as adults.
Built on our core Christian values, our ten words are:
Trust, Respect, Determination, Sustainability, Change, Diversity, Equality,
Aspiration, Wellbeing, Pride
What we offer our children - aspirations for all.
As well as supporting the children to find in themselves something to aspire to, so that they can recognise the value of hard work and commitment, we have whole-school aspirations that we endeavour to provide for our children:
- Opportunities to speak publicly in order to develop confidence
- Opportunities to demonstrate their skills and talents
- Opportunities to hold a position of responsibility
- Opportunities to represent the school, in sports, curriculum events, music and drama
- The chance to show entrepreneurial spirit, leadership and creativity
- The rich experience of outdoor learning that empowers them to begin to make the choice between ‘green’ and ‘screen’
- An understanding of the importance of community
- A respect for important places, especially St. Matthews’ Church
